Right now, my PC’s volume is set to 50% and if I were to restart it, the volume would still be at 50% when it booted back up. But, by using a free tool called Start Volume, I can automatically change the volume. That’s what Start Volume does: it automatically runs at startup and adjusts the system volume to the value you selected.

Start Volume doesn’t need to be installed. To get it up and running, you must download an archive, extract its contents, and run the Start Volume executable. Once you do so, a very simple interface will show up. What you have to do then is enter the volume percentage (say 15%), check the option to run at startup, and hit OK. The next time you boot up your PC, Start Volume will run and automatically adjust the volume to 15%.

You might have noticed that there’s a Set Now button on Start Volume’s interface. What this button does is it changes the volume right then and there. So if you told Start Volume to set the volume to 15%, clicking the Set Now button will immediately change the volume to 15%.

Chris Gingerich, the one who created Start Volume, offers it for the great price of free. He created this simple yet useful tool back in 2013, when someone on DonationCoder.com said that "I would like an application that would change system volume to a desired level (like 20% OR 30%) on system startup." Chris Gingerich responded to this request and came up with Start Volume.

Start Volume is a simple tool that automatically adjusts the system volume at startup. Tell it how you want to adjust the volume and it will do as instructed.

Pros

Start Volume doesn’t have to be installed. There’s a Read Me file that clearly explains how to use Start Volume. You can adjust the volume right then and there, or you can instruct Start Volume to automatically adjust the volume at startup. Start Volume is free software.

Cons

The Starpunch link on Start Volume’s interface leads to a blog that is open to invited readers only.
